Inn Churches Night Shelter
St. Matthew’s is again hosting a night shelter for homeless men for six nights from Boxing Day, the 26th December to New Year’s Day.
The layout of St. Matthew’s lends itself to the shelter but the project is
supported by the churches in the four villages and, perhaps more importantly,by the wider community.
The Inn Churches Winter Shelter provides 12 beds a night for 17 weeks in the
coldest months of the year (December to March), in a different partner church each week. Unlike many hostels, Inn Churches is able to offer beds to people with ‘no recourse to public funds’ – for instance failed asylum seekers, people who’ve been trafficked, or partners of those with residency rights whose relationships have broken down – as well as those who have recourse to public funds but are not a priority case.
Our church will provide guests with a hot meal each night, a warm bed, and
breakfast in the morning. But we also provide support: from simple
conversations with people who listen, to emotional support. And on top of
that, the charity works with each guest to try and find them longer-term
accommodation. Guests are referred by agencies around Bradford, and are
from a wide range of backgrounds, including UK-born, asylum seekers,
refugees and EU nationals.
We are looking for volunteers to greet and befriend the guests, to join a
catering team for dinner or breakfast, or to provide overnight supervision and care. If you would like to take part or want more information contact David Haigh on 01535 274225 or by email at email@example.com.
An up-to-date copy of the rota is available on the St. Matthew’s website at
We had a wonderful turnout this year and even more stalls than last year. Sincere thanks to everyone who donated, spent and worked so hard to make the event such a success.
We raised the amazing total of £1,000 and of that amount £654 was eligible for gift aid refunds. The generosity of local businesses (too many to mention individually) was greatly appreciated and we are looking forward to doing it all again next year. Hopefully this will be on Saturday 22nd September 2018.
Welcome to our new website we will add news and events shortly.
